This article discusses books related to class and delinquency. Adolescents may have been troublesome even in ancient times, yet the "stress and strain" of growing up is far from being a universal phenomenon. Cross-cultural research shows that it is remarkably insignificant among non-literate and rural societies outside the Graeco-Roman and Judaeo-Christian traditions. But precisely what is meant by delinquency and what is normal behavior in adolescence? Authors of several books admit that there is a persistent ambiguity in the legal meaning of the term delinquency.
