The most powerful medium of mass communications ever known, TV reaches into 35 million American homes where the average viewer watches for five hours a day. It can create a personality, a point of view, a level of taste. It is no longer stylish to deny its existence or to close one's eyes to its enormous influence on every phase of American life. Current government inquiry into possibly monopolistic network practices has encouraged those who dared to question the status quo: independent producers, a few independent station operators, government officials for their own several reasons.
