If Ohio Republicans fail to regain the Senate seat of the late Robert A. Taft, they will have only themselves to blame. Vying for the republican nomination in the May 4, 1954 primaries are representative George H. Bender of Cleveland and William Saxbe, a small-town lawyer at present speaker of the Ohio house. Bender will be remembered by TV viewers as the man who rang the bell and sang long and loud in the demonstrations for Taft at the 1952 Republican National Convention. He is supported by the state organization, headed by Ray C. Bliss and by the U.S. government. Secretary of the Treasury George M. Humphrey is doing everything he can for him.
