The Spanish republican crisis in Mexico was resolved seven days ago, and the confusion that the first news about it must have created among American leaders can now be somewhat cleared up. Naturally every Spanish republican, whether or not he occupies an official post, feels an intense obligation not to say anything that might prejudice the common cause. There are, however, two or three aspects of the situation which, perplexing as they may appear when viewed from a distance, are perfectly clear to those who played a role in the recent crisis.
