The revived appearance of a way of thinking, some people hoped J. Edgar Hoover, chief of the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), had outgrown is a serious matter for the post-war period. Before the war the FBI had become the top agency and in many ways the national coordinator for local and state police activities. If there is any hope of carrying over into the post-war period the better employee-employer relations developed during the war, much will depend on the FBI and the Department of justice and their influence over local and state police activities. Much will also depend on the spirit prevail in Washington and especially in the U.S. Congress
