This article presents information on the conditions of transportations in the U.S. Congestion in metropolitan areas like the Los Angeles "freeways," is a horrible example, are no more "free" during the rush hours than are New York City's subways at the same peaks. But a change may be signaled by the action of the 2 million New York State voters who turned, down Governor and Mayor's U.S. $2.5 billion bond issue for transportation. The rebellion against concrete is not confined to New York; crushed to earth, reason is trying to rise in metropolitan areas around the nation. Atlanta was in the midst of a struggle for a proposed U.S. $1.4 billion rapid transit system, consisting of a network of electrically powered rail cars and an expanded bus system provided with 14 miles of newly constructed bus lanes.
