The article focuses on acts of terrorism and separatism in Quebec. On October 5,1970, James R. Cross, the British trade commissioner in Canada, was kidnapped from his home in broad daylight and held for ransom by the revolutionary Front de Liberation du Quebec (FLQ). There have been revolutionary movements in many countries in the past; even the U.S. became "united" through a revolution against established, authority. Today, all over the world revolutionary rhetoric gives way to revolutionary action, and wherever governments clamp down on genuine protest, instead of trying to understand its causes, society polarizes until there is no way out and violent confrontation becomes inevitable.
