This article discusses the political aspects related to labor unions in the U.S. Organized labor has remained committed to egalitarian welfare-state principles in the U.S. Congress. The unions have been by far the strongest lobby this year for significant tax reform, in open opposition to the unadventurous Democratic leadership in the House And union lobbyists. Union working-class ideology has emphasized the workers' shared political interests growing out of the job situation. All workers required union representation on the job to curb the arbitrary authority of management; all needed more humane working conditions, a decent income and broader fringe benefits.
