The article presents information on U.S. politics. There is little point in attempting to guess how much of what U.S. President Richard M. Nixon said in his inaugural address he really believes. He probably does riot know himself. But we may be sure that in his view the directions and approaches indicated constitute sound politics, and as a political manifesto the address is reassuring. The overall theme was peace, emphasized at the beginning, in the middle and at the end; and affirmed, so to speak. on two Bibles. "For the first time, because the people of the world want peace and the leaders of the world are afraid of war, the times are on the side of peace." The political thrust is clear: the time has come to move beyond the stalemate in the cold war.
