Polls, Propaganda, and Politics

The article presents information on polls, propaganda, and politics. A study of the presidential election in 1940 showed that about half of the change which took place between the 1936 election and that of 1940 had been completed by May of 1940. The trends established during the first three and a half years were reinforced rather than reversed by the campaign itself. The shift in public attention from domestic controversy to foreign affairs seems to be reflected also in the regional changes that have taken place since 1940.
