The article presents some popular music recordings. The composers of these recordings include Claudio Monteverdi, Johann Strauss, Frédérick, Francois Chopin, Felix Mendelssohn and Carl Maria Weber. In his work Mendelssohn's youthful fusion of technical mastery and inspiration is at its height in this quite perfect work, a locus classicus of brilliant string scoring. The eight-part fugal writing of the last movement is a particular delight, as integrated into a sonata-allegro structure and adorned with an almost incessant but always thematically relevant eight-note motion.
