This article focuses on socio-political conditions of Guatemala. Today, there are several terrorist organizations for instance White Hand, that are indirectly supported by American military aid, and have set Guatemala on a course of savage destruction. Intent on wiping out the Communist guerrillas, they have been indiscriminately killing Communists, leftists, democrats and innocent bystanders. When they kidnapped Archbishop Mario Casariego on March 16, 1968 their daring reached its peak. They seized the ailing clergyman, and his car, as he returned from Mexico and held him captive for several days, hoping that the very effrontery of the act would bring crowds into the streets and eventually topple the shaky government.
