This article presents information on the liquor trade in North Carolina. The General Assembly of North Carolina was taking a vote on whether to permit liquor by the drink. The church bells tolled all day to warn that administration was about to wreak havoc on the most progressive state in the South. North Carolina has local option; the counties can vote themselves wet or dry. One of the counties has been dry since 1909. No one there has ever confessed a thirst but that is because the dry county adjoins a wet county. Just drive over the line and tote it home.
