This article presents information regarding plays in theaters of Paris, France. Bertolt Brecht plays the author saw here were "The Resistible Rise of Ariuro' Ui," written in exile in 1941 and first presented in Berlin in 1959, "The Mother," an adaptation of Maxim Gorky's novel, "Galileo Galilei," written in exile in 1939 and presented posthumously in Berlin in 1957, and finally, "Mother Courage" and "Her Children," also written in exile and first presented by the Berlin Ensemble in 1949. The play and production which most strongly stamped on the author's mind a sense of Brecht's great stature as an artist of the theatre was "Galileo," for which Erich Engel is credited with the direction, however, the first steps were undertaken by Brecht himself, who died in 1956 while the play was still in the early stage of study.
