This article focuses on the Republican Presidential convention in the U.S. The most meaningful development of the convention was the emergence of Nelson A. Rockefeller as a full-fledged national leader with the power to make his voice heard in the councils of the nation. The independent voters may not buy the new GOP, it is dangerous to forecast in July what the U.S. citizens will do in November, but whether Vice President Richard M. Nixon wins or loses the election, Rockefeller has made his point. He was caught in a power play and at no time did he have any chance of upsetting the nomination of Nixon.
