The article focuses on the book "The Poem Itself," edited by Stanley Burnshaw, Winston and Rinehart Holt. The Premise on which the book itself is based is that poetry cannot be translated or even that, as one says, "Any writing that has an aim that can be expressed by another writing is prose." The purpose of the authors is to convey the feeling and effectiveness of the poem, as well as its meaning, by comment, interpretation and paraphrase, rather than by translation. Since sound is an important element of 'poetry, the poem itself contains notes on the prosody and pronunciation of the languages represented.
