The article profiles political candidate Sam Ervin and his chances for North Carolina Senate seat. Senator Ervin has been the Constitution's defender ever since the Supreme Court ruled racial segregation in the schools was unconstitutional. He is firmly convinced there is no constitutional sanction for putting children in a school also attended by whites. Sam Ervin is unbeatable because he reflects the thinking in North Carolina. Sam Ervin is both typical obverse and the reverse of the North Carolina coin.
