The article presents information on U.S. politics. The U.S. government is determined to achieve military and diplomatic victory in Vietnam and will not negotiate until such an outcome is assured. For their part, the National Liberation Front and the North Vietnamese, beset by heavy losses and the Sino-Soviet Split would like to end the war. Under the leadership of square-jawed Barry Goldwater, the far Right enjoys a reputation for forthrightness, for hitting issues head-on, for the direct confrontation. But in its reaction to the revelations of the Central Intelligence Agency subornation of U.S. institutions, the far Right displays precious little of these pretensions.
