The article focuses on public opposition to the efforts of AT&T Corp. to launch all-numeral calling (ANC) or digit dialing, in California. The company feels the present dial system does not provide enough telephone number combinations to accommodate this ringing future. In addition to providing more combinations, an all-number dial provides uniformity. Despite the company's patient efforts to educate the telephone public, a group of San Francisco people formed an Anti Digit Dialing League. Whether or not the league succeeds in halting ANC, it is congealing growing resentment against A.T.&T.'s ignorance and arrogance about public needs.
