The article focuses on the architects of the New York City-based Lincoln Center. The architects of the Center have thoughtfully provided two different approaches to the Metropolitan Opera. The first, serving the lucky few who arrive by taxicab, passes the fountain in the focus of the three major buildings which squat like constipated frogs around a water lily. This approach is quite satisfactory except in rain, snow or slush, conditions which often perversely coincide with the coveted performances. But even in balmy weather the bulk of the audience arrives in the under ground parking garage and alights from cars and limousines to an overture of engine noise.
