This article presents an account of various developments in the world politics. Under President John F. Kennedy, U.S. Defense Secretary began trying to put a ceiling on military spending, preparatory to efforts to cut it back. The closing of thirty-three bases is, of course,'hardly more than a gesture. But it shows the trend, and it is one that President Lyndon B. Johnson will by all indications continue to support and enlarge. Meanwhile, Chinese Premier Chou En-Lai and his foreign minister have little more to offer than the ashtray, embroidery, Chinese phonograph records and photographs that were distributed to the official of an Egyptian automobile factory.
