The government has accepted the responsibility of providing jobs for all those who want them on the assumption that this is the only way in which people could and should receive an income. Economists have seen that in its attempts to meet this aim, it has tried to keep effective demand growing as fast as potential supply, and that the policies designed for this purpose are rapidly undermining the existing socioeconomic system. In addition, the government has accepted specific responsibilities for providing adequate incomes to those in agriculture and has recently decided that those whose interests are damaged through changes in tariffs should be compensated with tax money. It has also passed legislation based on the implicit assumption that everybody should be provided with at least minimum subsistence.
