Any business, in the accepted use of the term, must make a profit if it is to survive: stated this way, it appears a logical and obvious thought. However, discussion of the implications of this drive for profit is hampered by a lack of suitable descriptive terms. Economists have never developed, for instance, a word to include all individuals and institutions producing goods and services for profit. For present purposes, it is necessary to identify two important elements in the market picture by allocating to each of them a descriptive term. Thus, a marketive will be employed to describe any organization or individual producing goods and/or services in an attempt to make a monetary profit, and an ecofact will be employed to describe any of these goods and services.
