The article focuses on some recent issues in the United States. A committee of ten leading economists from both East and West has reported unanimously to the United Nations that a world depression need not follow disarmament. In general, the conclusions parallel those of a panel headed by Professor Emile Benoit, which made its report to the United States Arms Control and Disarmament Agency. The President of the United States has requested $3 billion for the Alliance for Progress program over the next five years. If it is Cuban-style, total "expropriations" that Congress is anxious to avoid, then it had better forget about the International Telephone & Telegraph Corp. incident which is not in point, and grant the President's request.
