Tourism disposes one toward giddy light-heartedness. Viewing a foreign land on the run, from the window of a bus, one can get a host of motley, hazy and contradictory impressions. One might imagine that he had grasped the main character, even in its most general aspect, that he had formed an unbiased and true idea of the foreign country and people he had seen, hut all that is self-delusion. There is nothing more conventional, subjective and unauthentic than a tourists impressions. No wonder most people regard tourists as superficial observers, whose travel stories are to be taken with a pinch of salt.
