The article focuses on the Congress Of Industrial Organizations (CIO) convention, which closed two weeks ago in Cleveland. The two great labor organizations, both under new leadership, are at last responding to the rank and files' insistent demands, and unity is for the first time a possibility. The convention provided a good vantage point from which to take stock of labor's progress since the big split in 1936. It mirrored the thinking not only of its own organization but of all labor and revealed the changes in labor's power and status.
