Medicare: The Major Defects

The article comments on the Medicare bill of the U.S. The three major sections of the bill deal with social insurance, through the social security system, for hospital and nursing-home care of persons over age 65. The benefits include sixty days of hospital care for each illness, limited care in nursing homes, some home care and outpatient diagnosis. However, experience with other medical-care programs is that benefits tend to increase after the program has been operating for a time, and benefits are not what is wrong with this section of the bill.
