Guatemala City has a new shrine--the Law School of San Carlos University. Here three students were machine-gunned by the military police, crawled in to die. Left unchanged is the spot where their blood, drying as it. trickled down the steps of the entrance, coagulated on bare stone. Such is the regime of President Miguel Ydigoras. Today, as during previous dictatorships, it is the students at Guatemala's national university who, hacking no party and seeking no gains for themselves, are leading the struggle against government deceit, corruption, tyranny and, assassination. Not with plastic bombs or arms smuggled from Cuba are they fighting, but with civic rallies, strikes and an unconquerable faith in democracy.
