This article focuses on the socio-political developments in Canada. Canada is undergoing a new wave of nationalism. The new Canadian nationalism combines a distaste for what the U.S. has become, obsessively consumptionist at home and obsessively anti-Communist and militarist abroad. Canadians celebrate their centennial this year with grave self-doubts and frustrations. The nation has become so deeply penetrated by the U.S. metropolis that the possibility of independence appears doubtful and the cost of independence stupendous.
