This article discusses about various books related to World War II. A book concerned with a great human catastrophe should tell us something about it, should even teach us something about ourselves and about the world in which we now live and will live. By and large, the good American fiction of the Second World War satisfies such demands. Books like Louis L. Snyder's "The War," Robert Merriam's "Dark December," C. Vann Woodward's "Battle for Leyte Gulf," and Martin Caidin's "Black Thursday," are historically accurate. These books span the branches of service, the theatres of operation and the key battles very well.
