The article focuses on some recent issues in the United States. There is nothing that the American public relishes more than the opportunity to wallow in a sty of pseudo-moral discussion. When something happens to tarnish the national image of moral excellence, Americans try to restore its pristine brilliance by rituals of public atonement led by priestly commentators. The "silent" Americans who have been down on the "kids" lately would do well to look in the other direction once in a while for their villains. If they did, they would discover a U.S. Army Major, in uniform and with the apparent approval of Army Chief of Staff General William Westmoreland, criticizing elected members of the United States Congress.
