Far from solving any problems, the Punta del Este, Uruguay Conference has created a new batch of thorny ones. The long-range problem which can be solved only by rational and mature diplomacy, is the one raised by the Foreign Minister of Brazil, San Tiago Dantas. Mexico and Latin American countries have entered upon the world scene and are no longer the private preserve of U.S. influence. Therefore, the problem to be solved is the same one, which exists in the world at large: finding a peaceful formula for competitive coexistence. As Dantas said, let the capitalist system show that in Latin America it can be more efficient than the socialist system in solving the hunger, the misery, the sickness and the ignorance of its 200 million people.
