In this article, the author reports the Seventh New York Film Festival held at the Alice Tully Hall of Lincoln Center, New York, New York. He reports that there has been a kind of gaiety about the crowds that gather to see the mostly offbeat novelties. They constituted the most sophisticated and receptive audience among the entertainment marts. Films displayed there were mostly based on tragic stories. Some of the films displayed in the festival were the Japanese film "Boy," showing industrialism in Japan; "Adalen 31," a fairy tale of industrial strife; "The Joke," a Czech picture on liberal regime; and "The Deserter and the Nomads," showing cruelty of political upheaval in Czechoslovak history.
