This article discusses two plays "Antigone," by Bertolt Brecht, and "The Great White Hope," by Howard Sackler. In the play by Brecht, the actress Judith Malina says that it would be better if the victims of tyranny gathered the expression of their protests and did something useful with them. According to Brecht, the horror has failed to horrify. This applies a fortiori to the work of the Living theatre. The play By Sackler is a bracingly popular play. There is no mystery, no private meanings, hardly any avantgarde pretentiousness. The writing is roughly eloquent with occasional lapses into anachronistic lingo.
