This article focuses on the political conditions of the U.S. with special reference to the issues being raised by various candidates in the forthcoming U.S. presidential elections. With the elections less than a month away, the "loudest political issue" of the campaign may be Cuba. There are certainly Re- publicans who would like it to believe that. Searching for a detonating issue, Representative William E. Miller of New York, chairman of the Republican National Committee; Arizona Senator Barry Goldwater and Representative Bob Wilson of California issued a manifesto on October 16, 1962 labeling Cuba the "dominant issue." However voters evidently don't feel that there is a moral compulsion to invade Cuba and restore free enterprise.
