"Strange things are done /Neath the midnight sun," wrote Robert Service, laureate of the Yukon gold rush, and if people could only find a replacement for midnight that description would fit the Great Treasure Hunt now going on in Florida, and neighboring, waters. Aside from the burlesque inherent in some of this hunting, the Florida state officials who are regulating the portion of it that comes under their jurisdiction show enough buffoonery, if not tragic, bungling, to entertain a jaded nation.
