Within its press of time and space, the picture of art in the New York galleries and museums, which this article presents during the year, is sadly limited. If only to acknowledge the richness of the scene, and the presence of a number of lively shows which weekly swamp the viewer, the author offers these quick sketches. They could be duplicated in almost every issue, and still not do justice to the quantity, and frequently even the quality, of the exhibitions. No distinction has been made between sculptures as such, kinetic "machines" and assemblage, for the good reason that such distinction become increasingly difficult to support. One learns that the polychrome movement is much stronger than one thought, and that there is a powerful sculptural renaissance on the West Coast.
