This article discusses three motion pictures "The Soft Skin,' directed by Francois Truffaut, "Les Abysses," by Nico Papatakis, and "Seance on a wet afternoon,' by Bryan Forbes. There is real elegance to "The Soft Skin," it lies in Truffaut's acid portrait of a smug trimpler cut down by the perfectly straight forward behavior of two women he thought no match for his charm or brains. The script for the motion picture directed by Nico is derived from a real murder that seized the French imagination some thirty years ago, and is said to have supplied Genet with the idea for The Maids. That play is a masterpiece of psychological mystification, the picture seems to be merely psychologically confused.
