This article focuses on the role played by Electoral College in presidential elections in the United States. Not only can the electoral vote itself give the victory to a candidate who has lost in the popular vote but also, because of certain constitutional uncertainties, November's winner may be defeated in December. The electors might not vote for him and it is their vote that counts. From its birth the Electoral College has contained latent, congenital defects which have caused all future generations constant electoral insecurity.
