Washington's new Museum of History and Technology, which opened January 23, 1964 offers proven ingredients, whose importance and popularity have long been established, in a new institutional setting. The original "Star Spangled Banner" that flew over historic shrine Fort McHenry, the locomotives and agricultural machines that were landmarks in the history of invention, the veritable costumes of Presidents' wives, a great collection of railroad equipment, trolley cars and automobiles, all these have assured the old Smithsonian Arts and Industries Building on the Mall of millions of visitors each year. Now that the fascinations have been moved to their new setting at Fourteenth Street and Constitution Avenue, attendance will probably double, perhaps to ten million.
