This article compare the demographics of the of the United States and the Soviet Union. There are, according to the latest United Nations' count, 3.42 billion people in the world. Two hundred thirty-nine million or 7 per cent of them are in the Soviet Union and 200 million, or almost 6 per cent, are in the United States. The Soviet Union is the third most prolific house builder in the world. It has been filling up acreage at an annual rate of ten new dwellings per 1,000 people. The United States boasts 342 dwelling units per 1,000 people as compared to 240 for the Soviet Union. It proposes, nevertheless, to build another 26 million homes in the next ten years.
