Hucksterism in the name of "good causes" is now as embedded in the liberal life and mindstyle as hookworm in the foot of an African child. Today, at the level of symbolic action, a person of progressive temperament can live in a bubble bath of moral self satisfaction from dawn to dusk. The problem here is that because there's not much of a left, fake politics have taken over. Morris Dees, co founder of Southern Poverty Law Center has raised an endowment of close to $100 million, with which he's done little, by frightening elderly liberals that heirs of German leader Adolf Hitler, are about to march down Main Street, lynching African Americans and putting Jews into ovens. The fundraising of Dees and the richly rewarded efforts of terror mongers like Leonard Zeskind offer a dreadfully distorted view of political realities in the United States.
