The article presents information on a people-to-people organization called Tools for Peace. T4P, as it is known, has sent ships bearing more than $3 million worth of material aid--everything from pencils and candles to blankets, clothing and spare parts--to Nicaragua. There are more than eighty-five local T4P committees throughout Canada, and scores of solidarity committees, outreach organizations and lobbying groups opposed to U.S. intervention in Central America. A surprising amount of support for Nicaragua comes from small towns that are difficult to find on most maps. The village of Yarrow, British Columbia, for example, regularly sends 200-word cables to the U.S. Congress protesting Washington's Central America policy.
