The first voice people hear in "The Color of Money," isn't an actor's but the director's. "The Color of Money," is fast and absorbing and often thrillingly well made, but there's something impure about it: it's a streamlined, best-sellerish replay of Martin Scorsese's work in 1970s, from Mean Streets through Raging Bull. Scorsese and his screenwriter, Richard Price, set everything up beautifully but they can't win, because there's an irresolvable problem built into the story.
