This article presents information on some recent socio-political developments. It is informed that there has been a merger between The New Republic, the politico-literary weekly based in Washington and Banana Republic, the popular travel and safari clothing catalogue. Martin Perez, editor in chief of The New Republic, briefed in a press conference that the merger should be viewed as a natural marriage as both magazines are targeted at the same audience and emphasize the same themes. He also refuted the suggestions that Banana Republic's stable of writers would face difficulties in a merger with the more conservative, The New Republic.
