This article focuses on the rise and decline of the organization Accuracy in Media (AIM). Reed Irvine founded AIM in 1969. An economist, Irvine at the time was working for the Federal Reserve Board. Although AIM's visibility may be greater than ever before, its influence is not. In fact, the more exposure AIM receives, the less popular it seems to become. Beyond a sliver of the American public, AIM has simply not been able to get its message across. Consider that a few years ago the organization's twice-monthly newsletter, "AIM Report," claimed almost 40,000 subscribers. Since then, in an effort to expand its base, AIM has resorted to a series of promotional devices.
