This article presents information on the book "After the Last Sky: Palestinian Lives," by Edward W. Said. It is opined that the real interest of this book lies in the remarkable relationship of text to pictures. The photographs were taken by Jean Mohr, who is Swiss and who traveled through Israel, the West Bank and Lebanon, unable to speak with his subjects except through an interpreter. The text is by a Palestinian intellectual who was born in Jerusalem but, except for a family wedding in nearby Ramallah in 1966, has not been back since he was 12. The Swiss camera sees for the Palestinian mind. It is an exercise in attenuated alienation.
