The article discusses the role of Jake Garn, a senator, in propelling the functioning of "Strategic Defence Initiative." The idea of senator Garn as a "payload specialist," is a negation of senatorial independence. His mission, continues the process by which the shuttle, once the pride of civilian space technology, is becoming an actual and a propaganda vehicle for Star Wars. According to Air Force Lieutenent General James A. Abrahamson, Director of the Strategic Defense Initiative, there is to be acceleration in the exploitation of the shuttle for Star Wars.
