The article focuses on Holocaust studies. The research into genocide is a subtext in the work of historians, lawyers, political scientists and psychologists. It also forms a powerful element in the imagination of novelists, playwrights, poets and film directors. The idea of the planned destruction of a whole people is one of the grand modern themes, and even the insistent call "Never again!" represents a half-buried fear of repetition. The fascination of the subject seems inexhaustible; almost, at times, pornographic. It may have something to do with the sick covenant that leaders have made with nuclear weapons.
