The article presents information on the book "With Walker in Nicaragua: And Other Early Poems, 1949-1954," by Ernesto Cardenal. Nicaragua has rightly been called the nation of poets. Not only has it produced important modern innovators of Spanish poetry such as Ruben Dario, Salomon de la Selva, Alfonso Cortés, "the exteriorist" José Coronel Urtecho and the Rev. Ernesto Cardenal, along with so many others, but poetic expression in Nicaragua has always been an important part of personal expression and cultural aspirations. Many Nicaraguan poets were early members of the Sandinista National Liberation Front or other insurgent groups.
